The Edgerton Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will be held at the library on designated Mondays of each month, starting on September 16th. Following sessions will be held on the Mondays of October 7th and 21st, November 4th and 18th, and December 2nd. From 3:30 to 4:30 pm, school age kids will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to a licensed therapy dog. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian.
According to the Therapy Dog International website, “The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and ‘dog-friendly’ atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading.” This program creates excitement about reading and is a great opportunity for children to build confidence and improve their reading skills. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” enables children to read aloud in an environment where they do not feel self-conscious and at the same time, can enjoy the company of the therapy dogs. The participating dogs have their certificates from Therapy Dog International and are trained to be calm and gentle.
