Page & Plate Cookbook Club Tries “Bacon Nation” Recipes

Attend the next meeting of the Williams County Public Library Page & Plate Cookbook Club, a book club that appeals to lovers of food and literature! Each month Page & Plate will choose a cookbook that participants will then pick a recipe out of to make, and bring to the next meeting for everyone to taste. The club will then discuss what they thought of the cookbook, and if they are excited to try more recipes from the book.

If you are interested in participating in Page & Plate, pick up the cookbook of the month, at the desk of the Bryan Main Library Adult Department. Sign up for the recipe you would like to make, so no duplicate dishes will be brought. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9th, from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm, in the Harmon Room of the Local History Center. The cookbook to be discussed in January will be Bacon Nation by Peter Kaminsky and Marie Rama. Come on your lunch hour to talk about all things cooking, while enjoying delicious food and great company!

This is a FREE program, and you must register to attend by Tuesday, January 7th, as there is a limit of 15 participants.

Intro to Calligraphy Writing Class

The Bryan Main Library is offering a four week “Introduction to Calligraphy Writing Class” for adults starting on Wednesday, January 15th. Consecutive classes will follow on January 22nd, 29th, and February 5th. Kathy Funderburg will be your guide into the basics of calligraphy! All classes will run from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, in the Carnegie Room.

In order to attend this course, guests need to be pre-registered Friday, January 10th. Act fast, as class size is limited to 10 students! Please keep in mind that participants are encouraged to attend all four of the offered classes. This program is FREE to attend, with supplies provided by the library.

Canvas & Cookies Class

The Bryan Main Library will host a Canvas & Cookies class on Thursday, January 16th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Come enjoy a relaxing evening with friends in the Carnegie Room! Snack on cookies while you paint a “winterscape” with a featured lamppost that you can customize by adding your name or address to. The class is open to adults of all artistic levels. Whether you’ve never painted a day in your life, or are an expert, you are welcome to attend!

This is a FREE program, with all supplies provided by the library, including the canvas for you to paint and take home. You must register to attend by Thursday, January 9th as class size is limited to 20 participants.

Winter Wellness Essential Oils Class

Dori Shackelford will be speaking on how essential oils can aid in “Winter Wellness” at the Bryan Main Library on Thursday, January 30th at 6:00 pm. Learn how to guard against illness during the cold winter months just by using essential oils! After the presentation, participate in a fun Make & Take, and create your own essential oil blend to take home.

This program is FREE to attend, but you must register by Thursday, January 23rd as the event is limited to 20 attendants.

Local History Center Events

Before Zelda: An Interactive History of Gaming

The Williams County Public Library Local History Center will be turned into a gamer’s paradise on Saturday, January 25th when WCPL presents BEFORE ZELDA: AN INTERACTIVE HISTORY OF GAMING. Open to all gamers, the event will run from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, and will feature examples of video game consoles from the beginnings of the industry to present day. There will be a presentation on each phase of gaming. Then, in the Harmon Room, participants will be able to play some of the classic games! This is a FREE program. There is no registration, and no age limit. Parents are encouraged to accompany children under the age of 15. Refreshments will be provided.

Edgerton Branch Library Events

Bundle Up with a Book 

The Edgerton Branch Library will offering their annual “winter reads” program from January 6th through February 15th, called “Bundle Up with a Book”. All area children are invited to head over to the library and participate in the fun program. Books are made up into bundles with specific themes, and the bundles are at various reading levels. Children can check out one bundle at a time. All children who check out a bundle will have their names entered into a drawing for a chance to win a wonderful winter prize!

Learn about CUTTING THE CORD

“Cutting the Cord,” a term used for anyone who cancels their cable or satellite subscription in favor of alternative options, such as streaming video services and more. This term has become well-known in recent years as an estimated 33 million Americans have switched from traditional TV and became a cord cutter by 2018. Perhaps you have considered joining the growing numbers, but are overwhelmed by the many streaming options available. If this is the case, then you need to attend a special presentation dedicated to the subject at the Edgerton Branch Library.

Held on Monday, January 6th at 6:00 pm, WCPL IT Manager, Tyson Horton will be speaking on “Cutting the Cord. In this program you will learn about the different streaming services currently available, what devices you will need in order to stream from various providers, and the overall benefits of cutting the cord, such as no contracts, cost savings, and the freedom to choose your provider. You will also get to see firsthand a variety of cordless viewing options. Bring any questions you might have on “Cutting the Cord” to your session, as there will be a Q&A time at the end of the presentation. This is a FREE program for adults, and you must register to attend.

"One Drop at a Time" Essential Oils Program

The Edgerton Branch Library will be holding the “One Drop at a Time” Essential Oils monthly program for adults on Wednesday, January 8th. From 1:00 to 2:00 pm, learn about the benefits of the newly released, “Adaptiv” line, which helps with relieving symptoms of anxiety and mental stress. Registration is required to attend this FREE program.

Organizing 101 with Just Julie

Just Julie Organizing will be at the Edgerton Branch Library on Wednesday, January 15th. Starting at 6:00 pm, learn the basics of tidying up, with “Organizing 101” by Julie Limbacher, a professional organizer. Pick up tips on how to tame your piles of paperwork and create a clutter free household. This is a FREE program, for adults. You must register to attend by Friday, January 10th.

Bingo for Books

On Friday, January 17th the Edgerton Branch Library will be holding “Bingo for Books” from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Spend an hour at the library playing Bingo! Winners get to choose a free book to take home. This event is open to school age kids, who must pre-register to attend by Friday, January 10th as the program is limited to 20 participants.

Edon Branch Library Events

Kaffeeklatsch-Coffee & Conversation in the Morning

The Edon Branch Library will be holding a “Kaffeeklatsch” coffee & conversation session on Monday, January 6, 2020 from 10:00 am to Noon. “Kaffeeklatsch” is a German-derived word that when loosely translated, means “coffee chatter.” So join in on some “coffee chatter” around the fireplace! Enjoy coffee and delicious pastries, while talking with old friends, or making some new ones. This will be an ongoing weekly program for adults. There is NO cost to attend, and registration is not required.

Simple Stitches-Sewing 101

The Edon Branch Library will hold, “Simple Stitches-Sewing 101” throughout the month of January for teens and adults. Create beginner projects and learn sewing basics that deal with patterns, fabric, and machine operations. The 4 week series will meet from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, on the Thursdays of, January 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. This is a FREE program with all supplies and sewing machines made available by the Edon Branch Library.

Frozen Party

Come celebrate the ice with a “Frozen Party” at the Edon Branch Library! Held on Saturday, January 25th from 11:00 am to Noon, children are invited to play games, have treats, and, of course, build a snowman! There will be prizes to sign up for, and costumes are optional. Come dressed as Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, or even Olaf if you like! This is a FREE program, and you must register by Friday, January 17th to attend.

Pioneer Branch Library Events

Bedtime Stories

The Pioneer Branch Library will be holding the weekly family program, “Bedtime Stories” every Monday night, starting January 6th. From 6:15 to 6:45 pm, kids from newborn to 5 years old are invited to come dressed in their pajamas and listen to bedtime stories. This is a FREE program, and registration is not required to attend, but is preferred. If the library is closed, no story time will be held.

Friday Movie Night

On January 17th the Pioneer Branch Library will hold a Friday Movie Night! Families are invited to enjoy a FREE and relaxing evening at the library. Watch new release, Abominable (rated PG) at 5:30 pm, while munching on snacks provided by the library. As this movie is rated PG, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult or have a signed parental/guardian movie consent form.

Snowman Painting Class for Kids & Teens

The Pioneer Branch Library invites kids and teens, of all ages, to a winter themed painting class on Saturday, January 18th. Starting at 9:00 am, come paint a jolly snowman on a 9”x12” canvas panel to take home and display. Enjoy a snowy donut and hot cocoa, while you paint! This is a FREE program with all supplies provided by the library. You must register to attend by Thursday, January 16th, as class size is limited to 12 attendants.

What Is It? Unusual Treasure Program

Have an oddity at home and don’t know what it is used for? Bring your unusual treasure to What Is It? A program filled with show and tell fun at the Pioneer Branch Library. Held on Wednesday, January 22nd from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, this program is for teens and adults, and is not intended to offer or represent appraisal values, just light-hearted amusement!

Afterschool Video Gaming

The Pioneer Branch Library will be holding Afterschool Video Gaming from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Friday, January 24th. Gaming is open to all school-age children. There are several different gaming systems available for kids to use. Snacks will be provided at this FREE program. Parents are welcome to attend.

Stryker Branch Library Events

Snow Much Fun Party

On, Monday, January 13th the Stryker Branch Library will be hold an afterschool party that’s going to be “Snow Much Fun!” This program is for children, in preschool through sixth grade, and will run from 3:15 to 4:00 pm. Everything will be snow themed! Come have snow snacks, games, crafts, and even an indoor snowball fight! This program is FREE to attend, and registration is NOT required.

Tail Waggin' Tutors

The Stryker Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will be held at the library on the third Thursday of each month, starting on January 16th. Following sessions will be held on the Thursdays of February 20th, March 19th, and April 16th. From 3:15 to 4:00 pm, children in preschool through 6th grade will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to a licensed therapy dog. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian.

Bundle Up and Read

The Stryker Branch Library will offering their annual “winter reads” program from January 21st through February 29th called Bundle Up and Read. All area children are invited to head over to the library and participate in the fun program by following these four easy steps.

  1. Look for a bundle with a snowman tag to check out. Each bundle contains books on a related subject and the bundles are at various reading levels.
  2. Remove the snowman from the bundle and put your name on the back of the snowman tag.
  3. Add your snowman to the library bulletin board. There is no limit to the number of snowmen you may have.
  4. All snowmen will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a wonderful “winter” prize.

Adult Coloring Class

Attend an Adult Coloring Class at the Stryker Branch Library on Tuesday, January 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Pictures and coloring utensils will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own. Refreshments will be served. Come and relax at the library while coloring!

Polar Pals Workshop

On, Monday, January 27th the Stryker Branch Library will be having a “Polar Pals Workshop” at 5:30 pm. Children, infant through 10 years old, will get to stuff their very own plush pal! Choose from a husky puppy, Icee polar bear, baby snow leopard, penguin, or ocean seal. This is a FREE program, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required by Friday, January 24th to attend, as there is a limit of 25 participants.

Blizzard Bingo

The Stryker Branch Library will be holding “Blizzard Bingo” on Thursday, January 30th from 3:15 to 4:00 pm. This special after school winter program is for kids up through 6th Grade. There will be plenty of snacks, prizes, and excitement at this FREE event.

West Unity Branch Library Events

Savory Samples Club

The West Unity Branch Library is very excited to start a new kind of club that appeals to lovers of food and cooking! On Monday, January 27th adults are invited to join the, “Savory Samples Club” which will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Each attendant brings their favorite prepared dish along with a copy of the recipe to share. Taste each dish, and at the end of the night go home with a content belly, and a copy of all the recipes to try with your own family! The “Savory Samples Club” is a FREE program that will be held several times throughout the year. Please register to attend by Friday, January 24th, as there is a limit of 15 participants.

Celebrate National Puzzle Day

Celebrate National Puzzle Day at the West Unity Branch Library on Wednesday, January 29th. Stop in anytime between 1:00 and 5:00 pm to have some puzzle fun! Attendants will each get to make their very own puzzle jar to take home. This is a FREE program open to all ages, and registration is not required to attend.
