“Tales and Tails” for Summer Reading at West Unity Branch Library

West Unity Branch Library summer reading programs, with the theme of “Tales and Tails”, will run from June 8 through July 22! The library will hold many special programs throughout the summer months on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with all events starting at 1 pm, unless otherwise noted. Children will also receive rewards for reading throughout the summer, with prizes being given out each week when books that have been checked out, and read, are returned to the library.

Tuesday programming will begin on June 8 where kids can meet Mr. Leu the Science Guru, who will be sharing some spectacular science experiments. Then, brought back by popular demand, the Exotic Zoo will be at the library on June 15 at 3 pm! Get up close to live exotic animals from around the world! On June 22 at 2 pm, attend the Team Zoom Canine Entertainment performance, perfect for all ages! This action packed event features expertly trained dogs showcasing unbelievably long Frisbee catches and gravity defying agility vaults, to jumping rope, hula-hooping, dancing and darting through an obstacle course. Team Zoom has performed at dog shows throughout the Midwest, and now is stopping by the West Unity Library! At 2 pm on June 29, take part in “Drummunity”. A “drummunity” circle is a high energy, fun, and empowering activity for any age. The drum circle facilitator will bring her collection of instruments to transform our community into a drummunity! This will be an inspiring program for kids of all ages! Beth from the Humane Society will be visiting the library on July 6, and she will be bringing along an animal friend! Come learn all about what the Humane Society does for the county, what kind of animals are taken in, and what goes into the care of the animals before they’re picked by a family for adoption. Mark your calendars for the Mad Hatters Tea on July 13! Enjoy the delights of the Mad Hatter's tea with delicious treats, crafts, and some games! Participants are welcome to dress up for the occasion.Learn about Ohio’s wildlife, and park and water safety, on July 20 with Laura, a naturalist from Maumee Bay State Park, who will be bringing live animals to the library!

Wednesdays will be a Movie Day at the library. Stop in each week to watch a family-friendly movie, at 1 pm. Popcorn will be served! Spots are limited.

Thursday programming will start on June 10 with a magic show filled with unbelievable tricks, put on by magician Jim Barron. Game Day will be on June 17, and will be a day filled with outdoor fun. On June 24, join the Roz Puppets for a whimsical retelling of a classic tale, “George and the Dragon”, set in the times of dragons and enchanted creatures. In this puppet tale, a young lad, George, will have to face the terrible Dragon of Legend! Learn all about fire safety on July 1. Children will be shown fire safety equipment and fire safety when using sparklers. After the fire safety lesson there will be games and a craft! Greg Lee will be talking all about hot air balloons on July 8 at 3 pm. Greg will talk through the steps that must be followed to get the balloons in the air. Pictures will be shown, and attendants will be able to stand inside the basket that is usually attached to the hot air balloon. Ann Marie, from the Williams County Soil & Water Conservation, will be visiting on July 15 to talk about the environment and how soil and water is used in our daily life. Take part in the Summer Reading Closing Party on July 22 and enjoy a fun filled day with crafts, games, and treats to end the summer reading program!
