Fall Children’s Programs
Bryan Main Library fall schedule will contain programs for children of all ages! Start the week off with Baby Lapsit, held every Monday from 1:00 to 1:30 pm. Baby Lapsit is a great way to help with early literacy training for babies and their parents. There will be stories, music, and social time. Tuesdays will have Morning Story Time, for ages 2 through 5, at 10:30 am. There will be themed stories and activities. Minecraft Club for Jr. High and High School will also be held on Tuesdays at 3:30 pm. This program will take place in the upstairs Computer Lab of the Local History Center. Other activities on Tuesday include Lego Club at 4:00 pm; the perfect activity for kids age 7 through 12 who love to build, and an Evening Story Time at 6:30 pm, for ages 2 through 5. Thursday fun will start with Minecraft Club at 3:30 pm, for ages 7 through 12, which will be held in the upstairs Computer Lab of the Local History Center. Art Works will then be on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, also for ages 7 through 12. Come make a fun new craft each week!
Chalk Couture Class
The Bryan Main Library is inviting adults to attend a “Chalk Couture” class on Wednesday, October 9th, which will run from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Enjoy a relaxing night at the library creating a large personalized sign to take home!
Chalk Couture is the new and easy way to express your creativity! Instructed by Samantha Filip, attendants will be able to design and make their own pictures using the Chalk Couture method, which uses vinyl transfers, along with non-toxic water soluble pastes, to create beautiful custom works of art. This is a FREE event, but you must register to attend as the class is limited to 20 participants.
Page & Plate Cookbook Club
The next meeting of the Bryan Main Library Page & Plate cookbook club will be on Thursday, October 10th, with a theme of “bring your favorite soup recipe”. Participants are asked to bring enough of their favorite soup for everyone to try, along with the actual recipe. At the end of the meeting, attendants will receive copies of all the delicious soup recipes to take home! The library will supply water, bowls, silverware, etc. just bring your soup! This month, Page & Plate will be held in the Harmon Room of the Local History Center from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. Come on your lunch hour to talk about all things cooking, while enjoying delicious food and great company!
This is a FREE program. If you are interested in participating in Page & Plate, you must register to attend by Wednesday, October 9th as there is only room for 15 participants.
Canvas & Cookies
The Bryan Main Library will host a Canvas & Cookies class on Thursday, October 17th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Come and enjoy a relaxing evening with friends, painting a Halloween themed canvas, and snacking on tasty cookies in the Carnegie Room. The class is open to adults of all artistic levels. Whether you’ve never painted a day in your life, or are an expert, you are welcome to attend! This is a FREE program, with supplies provided by the library, including the canvas for you to paint and take home. You must register to attend by Wednesday, October 16th as class size is limited to 25 participants.

Local History Center Events
Third Annual Fountain Grove Cemetery Tour
Join the WCPL Local History Center crew on Saturday, October 19th for the Third Annual Fountain Grove Cemetery Tour. Take in the stories of some of the area’s most notable and notorious citizens, from saintly missionaries to dastardly scoundrels, charitable citizens to titans of industry, and the barely remembered to unforgettable. Along the way, learn about the architecture and symbolism used on tombstones, and finally answer that question, “Why does great-grandpa’s tombstone look like a tree stump?”
The tour will begin at the mausoleum at 6:30 pm, with the Local History staff giving a brief history of the Bryan, OH cemetery, and then proceed throughout the grounds. There is no limit on the number of attendants. Individual flashlights will be provided for participants. The tour will end at approximately 8:45 pm.

Murder & Mayhem Week
The WCPL Local History Center is pleased to announce its line-up for this year’s Murder & Mayhem Week.
Oct. 22 – Austin Maynard, local parapsychologist, will share with us his adventures in ghost hunting and the supernatural. The architecture of the recent supernatural tour of Bryan will offer a glimpse into the world of parapsychology and the techniques used in this field.
Oct 23 – Local historian Kevin Maynard reprises his presentation on the murder of young David Schamp that resulted in the only public hanging in Williams County. Come hear the gripping tale of deceit, murder, and revenge.
Oct 24 --- LHC assistant Denver Henderson presents his “Encounter with Poe”. The first Master of Horror is brought to life through his letters, stories, and poems. From the ‘Tell-Tale Heart’ to ‘the Raven’ hear the best of America’s macabre genius.
All programs will be held in the Harmon Room at 6:30 pm, and are free to the public.
Black Swamp Medicine Girls Spooky Apothecary
Step back in time with the “Black Swamp Medicine Girls” Susan Wiesehan and Jeanne Caryer at the WCPL Local History Center. Enjoy a spooky show like you have never seen before on Monday, October 28th at 6:00 pm in the Harmon Room.
The “Black Swamp Medicine Girls” will present and demonstrate examples of antique medical devices and treatments. The history of vintage medicine bottles, diseases of the Great Black Swamp and treatments for such ailments as consumption, quincy, lumbago, rheumatism, bad breath, and gout will also be explored.
Learn about the old medicine sales pitches and how half a dollar could buy you a treatment that could cure everything from baldness to curvature of the spine. Discover the adventurous antics of medicine shows in the 1850’s through the 1930’s and their performances peddling their “miracle” cures, elixirs, and devices guaranteed to improve your health.
For the Local History Center program, the Medicine Girls have been digging in their vault and will include some amazing, horrifying, and gruesome treatments, medications, and diseases thousands of innocent people endured. It’s a show geared to entertain your Halloween appetite. We dare you to attend!

Edgerton Branch Library Events
Tail Waggin’ Tutors
The Edgerton Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will be held held on the Mondays of October 7th and 21st. From 3:30 to 4:30 pm, school age kids will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to a licensed therapy dog. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian.
Halloween Mason Jar Craft
Teens and adults, age 13 and older, are invited to a fun craft night at the Edgerton Branch Library on Monday, October 7th. From 5:30 to 7:00 pm, make your own spooky mason jars! Each participant will make 1 large and 1 small Halloween themed jar. This program is FREE to attend with all materials being provided by the library. You must register by Thursday, October 3rd, as class size is limited to 20 participants.
Essential Oils Program
The Edgerton Branch Library will be holding the “One Drop at a Time” Essential Oils monthly program for adults on Wednesday, October 9th. From 1:00 to 2:00 pm, learn about the essential oils Melaluca, On Guard, and Oregano. Registration is required to attend this FREE program, as this class is limited to 20 participants. Deadline to register is Monday, October 7th.
Bingo for Books
On Friday, October 18th the Edgerton Branch Library will be holding “Bingo for Books” from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Spend an hour at the library playing Bingo! Winners get to choose a free new book to take home. This event is open to kids’ ages 7 to 14 years old, who must pre-register to attend by Wednesday, October 16th as the program is limited to 20 participants.
The Breakfast Club
The Edgerton Branch Library invites 4th and 5th graders to join “The Breakfast Club”, a fun book club that includes a hot, homemade breakfast! Come in your jammies on Saturday, October 19th at 9:30 am, and discuss the book The Outlandish Adventures of Liberty Aimes by Kelly Easton. As this book has an AR book level of 4.1, and is worth 5 AR points, participants will be able to use this book to help meet their AR goal at school. The library is working in conjunction with the 4th/5th grade teachers of Edgerton school to make this possible. “The Breakfast Club” is a FREE program, with all food and refreshments being provided by the library. Sign up to attend by Wednesday, October 16th. Stop into the library to pick up a copy of The Outlandish Adventures of Liberty Aimes before the first club meeting!
Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest
The Edgerton Branch Library will be holding a Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Be creative, and decorate your pumpkin like your favorite book character! Winners will receive a special prize!
Contest rules are as follows: 1. The main part of your entry must be a pumpkin (or gourd) but the rest of the decorations (paint, glue, fabric, etc.) are up to your imagination. 2. No carved pumpkins. (Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell. Pumpkins that have been carved, poked, or hollowed out will not be entered.)
Submissions must be dropped off to the library by Saturday, October 19th by noon. All submissions will be on display from Monday, October 21st to Saturday, November 2nd for public viewing and voting. Winners will be decided by public choice. The contest is open to all ages!
Make a “Fall Book Block”
The Edgerton Branch Library will be offering a fun craft program for adults on Monday, October 21st at 5:30 pm. Instructor Paulette Polley will guide you through turning an old recycled book into a “fall book block”, which will make the perfect decoration for your home, just in time for the autumn season! This event is free, and all materials will be provided by the library. You must sign up to attend Wednesday, October 21st

Just Julie Organizing
The Edon Branch Library will be holding a “Just Julie Organizing” Time & Schedule Management program with for adults on Tuesday, October 15th, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Profressional organizer, Julie Limbacher will teach you how to keep track of everyone’s schedules, and set up a system so everyone in the household knows who, what, where, when. There is no registration required to attend this FREE program.
Olive Oils 101
The Edon Branch Library will be hosting a class on the different types of olive oil on Wednesday, October 16th at 6:00 pm. Olive Twist from Auburn, Indiana will be presenting, “Olive Oils 101” and will offer a tasting of a selection of olive oils. Olive oil has been proven to have amazing health benefits, including disease prevention and protection. However, we’ve all faced the overwhelming wall of olive oils at the store, and have each wondered, “Which olive oil will work best for me”? This class will help take the guesswork out of buying the perfect olive oil to fit your needs!
This is a FREE program for adults, and there is NO registration required to attend.
Neon Unicorn Workshop
The Edon Branch Library will be hosting a Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop on Saturday, October 19th, at 10:00 am. Children will build their own “Neon Unicorn” plush pal to take home with them. There will also be unicorn themed goodies! Register to attend this FREE program by Friday, October 18th. Class size is limited, so hurry and sign up before the event is full!
Essential Oils Class
The Edon Branch Library will be holding an Essential Oils Class on Monday, October 21st. Instructor Rhonda Bockover will be teaching on how essential oils can be used in the home. The class will run from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, and is free for adults to attend.

Pioneer Branch Library Events
Bedtime Stories
The Pioneer Branch Library will be holding a new weekly family program called “Bedtime Stories”. Held every Monday night, starting October 7th, from 6:15 to 6:45 pm, kids from newborn to 5 years old are invited to come dressed in their pajamas and listen to bedtime stories. This is a FREE program, and registration is not required to attend, but is preferred.
Friday Movie Night
On Friday, October 18th the Pioneer Branch Library will be having a Movie Night! Families are invited to enjoy a FREE and relaxing night out at the library! Starting at 5:00 pm, beefy nachos and cheese will be served, along with popcorn to munch on while watching Aquaman (rated PG-13).
In Aquaman, Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land. Featuring standout performances by Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Nicole Kidman this DC Comics tale is sure to thrill viewers with stunning special effects, and a story the whole family will enjoy!
As the movie being shown is rated PG-13, anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who must sign a movie consent form. Reservations are not required, but encouraged.
Meet Local Author Carol Castor
Local author Carol Castor will be visiting the Pioneer Branch Library on Saturday, October 19th, at 10 am. The Girl Scouts of Williams County, as well as the general public, are invited to attend this program.
Carol Castor is the author of the A Mound of Evidence: An Aubrey Burke History Adventure, the story of a 21st-century girl, who gets transported magically into the life and times of another little girl living somewhere around 500 C.E. in the Hopewell Indian tradition. The two girls’ adventures take them through a day in the life of the people of this era. Carol’s newest book, Blue Star North, is its sequel, and it has Aubrey transported back into the time of the 1800s, where she accompanies two children along their ride on the Underground Railroad.
At the library event, Carol will discuss the process of writing her books, and is hoping to encourage young budding authors to pursue their writing dreams! There will be a book signing and both A Mound of Evidence and Blue Star North will be available to purchase. How to Train Your Dragon Program
The Pioneer Branch Library will be holding a “How to Train Your Dragon” program for children in on Tuesday, October 22nd, from 3:00 to 4:15 pm. Kids in 1st through 8th Grade are invited to come learn about the many types of dragons and how to train them. Become a dragon keeper, hatch an egg, and make your own dragon! Play games including Cross the Moat, Noodle Jousting, and Put out the Dragon’s Eye. Have some dragon-themed snacks. You must register to attend by Friday, October 18 for this FREE program.
Klutz Kits Fun
The Pioneer Branch Library will be holding “Klutz Kits Fun” for children on Saturday, October 26th. Come have a creative Saturday morning, from 10:00 to 11:45 am, while putting together your very own Klutz Kit! There are 14 different kits to choose from. Please call to register, or stop by the library and choose your own kit by Friday, October 25th. This is a free program, and registration is limited to 14 participants.

Stryker Branch Library Events
Right to Read Week
Celebrate Right to Read Week, through October 4, at the Stryker Branch Library! Take part in exciting programs with this year’s theme “Camp READ-A-LOT”. Area students are invited to visit the library to join in on many different afterschool activities! All programs will run from 3:15 to 4:00 pm.
Each day of Right to Read Week will hold something special. “Camp Read 2 Me” will be held on Wednesday, October 2. Afterschool on Thursday, October 3 will be a “Game Day” for preschool through 4th grade. Stop in on Friday, October 4 for another “Game Day” for 5th & 6th graders.
Adult Coloring
Attend an Adult Coloring Class at the Stryker Branch Library on Tuesday, October 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Pictures and coloring utensils will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own. Refreshments will be served. Come and relax at the library while coloring!

The Stryker Branch Library will be holding a “Spiderman Party” on Monday, October 21st, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Boys in preschool through 4th grade, are invited to join in on a Spiderman obstacle course, Spiderman craft, face painting, and a light supper. Each boy will receive their very own Spiderman costume, and “Spidey” himself will be there to have his picture taken with every little Spiderman! You must register to attend by to attend this FREE program by Wednesday, October 16th, as the party is limited to 24 participants.
Christmas Sheep Painting Class
The Stryker Branch Library invites you to participate in a “Christmas Sheep” painting class with Deb Ridgway on Saturday, October 26th, at 9:30 am. Anyone, age 16 and older, can come paint an adorable sheep wearing a Santa hat on three separate mini canvases. Just in time for the holiday shopping season to kick in, these paintings will also be wrapped up in a pretty gift bag for you to give away as presents. You might like them so much, you’ll want to just keep them! Please register by October 24th to attend this FREE program, as class size is limited to 14 participants.

West Unity Branch Library Events
Celebrate Fall Fest
During the West Unity Fall Fest and chili cook-off, on Saturday, October 12, the West Unity Branch Library invites you to stop by and visit the library, along with the FFA petting zoo! The petting zoo will be at the library from 10:00 am to noon. There will also be games, crafts, and face painting! Snacks will be served. This is a FREE event that is open to all ages.
Sugar Skull Pumpkin Painting
The West Unity Branch Library will be hosting a Sugar Skull Pumpkin Painting class with Deb Ridgway on Thursday, October 17th from 6 to 8 pm. Each participant should bring a pumpkin to paint a traditional sugar skull design on. All other materials will be provided by the library. This is a FREE program for adults and teens. Please register by Friday, October 11th, as class size is limited to 14 participants.
