Find out what exciting events are happening in December at the Williams County Public Library. We have special programming planned for all our locations including our Bryan Main Library, the Local History Center, and our branches in Edgerton, Edon, Pioneer, Stryker, and West Unity!

Bryan Main Library Events

Storytime with Santa

Children and families are invited to “Story Time with Santa” at the Bryan Main Library! Held on Friday, December 6th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, join us for a Christmas-themed story time and a special visit with Santa in the Carnegie Room. There will be fun crafts, along with cookies, finger foods, a hot chocolate bar, and coffee for the adults. Come enjoy an evening filled with Christmas cheer! This is a FREE program open to the public. Please register to attend.

Attend a Christmas Tea

The Bryan Main Library invites you to celebrate the holiday season in the historic Carnegie building with a cup of tea and a treat. On Saturday, December 7th the Local History Center and the Main Library Adult Services Department will host a Christmas Tea at 10:30 am under the dome in the Carnegie wing. Come and enjoy a fresh ‘cuppa’, along with a scone and cookie, while Christmas music fills the air. This is a FREE program for adults. Registration is required by Monday, December 2nd as seating is limited to 48 attendants.

Holiday Glass Etching Class

Attend a festive craft night at the Bryan Main Library, featuring A Touch of Frost Glass Etching Class. Held under the dome of the historic Carnegie room, participants will create beautiful etched glassware, with a holiday theme, on Monday, December 9th at 6:30 pm. A selection of stemmed and stemless wine glasses, and pilsner glasses will be available. Participants can choose from a wide variety of stencils to etch on their glass, all with assistance and direction of staff members from the WCPL Local History Center and the Adult Department. No previous experience in glass etching is required to attend. This is a FREE program for adults. You must register as class size is limited to 30 people, and 2 glasses each. Registration deadline is Wednesday, December 4th.

Holiday Ornament Craft Night

Experience the joy of the holiday season at the Bryan Main Library! On Wednesday, December 11th join staff members of the Adult Department and WCPL’s Local History Center in a craft night under the dome of the historic Carnegie room. Starting at 6:30 pm, participants will either create an etched glass ornament, or make a marbleized glass ornament by heating bits of wax crayon to give the ornament the desired marbleized effect. Assistance and direction will be offered by WCPL staff. This FREE adult program is limited to 30 people, and 2 ornaments each. Registration deadline is Wednesday, December 4th.

Page & Plate to have Holiday Sweets Theme

The next meeting of the Bryan Main Library Page & Plate cookbook club will be on Thursday, December 12th, with a theme of “Holiday Sweets”. Participants are asked to bring their favorite Christmas cookies or holiday dessert, along with the recipe. At the end of the meeting, attendants will receive copies of all the delicious recipes to take home!

The library will supply water, bowls, silverware, etc. just bring your dish! Page & Plate will be held in the Harmon Room of the Local History Center from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. Come on your lunch hour to talk about all things cooking, while enjoying delicious food and great company. This is a FREE adult program. You must sign up for what you will be bringing by calling the library Adult Dept. at 833-633-READ x 221, by December 10th.

Canvas & Cookies Class

The Bryan Main Library will host a Canvas & Cookies class on Thursday, December 19th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Come and enjoy a relaxing evening with friends, painting either a festive Christmas tree or a snowman on canvas, and snacking on tasty cookies in the Carnegie Room. The class is open to adults of all artistic levels. Whether you’ve never painted a day in your life, or are an expert, you are welcome to attend! This is a FREE program, with supplies provided by the library, including the canvas for you to paint and take home. This class is now FULL and registration has closed. Local History Center Events

Create a Holiday Pinecone Garland

Add a dash of rustic beauty to your holiday decorating by joining the WCPL Local History Center staff in creating a delightful pinecone garland for your home. With only pinecones, paint, and jute string you can make a beautiful garland to be used both inside and outside. The finished product will measure 4 feet in length, with 12 pinecones at 4 inch intervals, creating the perfect holiday decoration! The event will be held in the Harmon Room of the Local History Center on Wednesday, December 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This program is FREE to the public, and all materials will be supplied by the library. This class is now FULL, and registration has closed. Edgerton Branch Library Events

Tail Waggin' Tutors

The Edgerton Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will be held at the library on Monday, December 2nd, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. School age kids will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to a licensed therapy dog. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian.

Laurel Wreath Painting Class

The Edgerton Branch Library will be holding a holiday painting class with Deb Ridgway on Monday, December 2nd from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Participants will paint a beautiful laurel wreath on precut upcycled wood. The rustic design will feature the word, “Merry” in the center of the wreath. Whether you’re looking to give a one of a kind gift, or would like to make the perfect Christmas decoration for your home, this is the class for you! FREE TO ATTEND, with all supplies being provided by the library, make sure you sign up quick as class size is limited to 14 attendants.

Lego Club

The Edgerton Branch Library is inviting you to join the Lego Club! Different age groups will meet on designated Wednesdays, from 3:15 to 4:00 pm. The schedule for December 2019 is as follows:

Wednesday, December 4 - Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Wednesday, December 11 - 2nd and 3rd Grade

Wednesday, December 18 - 4th and 5th Grade

Legos will be provided by the library. Please do not bring your own Legos, just bring your creative minds. So don’t hesitate, drop in and join the building fun!

Senior Citizens Christmas Tea

The Edgerton Branch Library will be holding a Senior Citizens Christmas Tea on Tuesday, December 10th at 9:30 am. Come out and enjoy a time of fellowship and holiday cheer! There will be food, coffee, tea, prizes and entertainment! This event is free to the public. Please register to attend by Tuesday, December 3rd to reserve your spot.

“One Drop at a Time” Essential Oils Program

The Edgerton Branch Library will be holding the “One Drop at a Time” Essential Oils monthly program for adults on Wednesday, December 11th at 1:00 pm. During this essential oils class, participants will be introduced to different Holiday Diffuser Blends that smell heavenly during the holiday season. Registration is required to attend this FREE program, as class size is limited to 20 participants.

Bingo for Books

On Friday, December 13th the Edgerton Branch Library will be holding “Bingo for Books” from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Spend an hour at the library playing Bingo! Winners get to choose a free new book to take home. This event is open to kids’ ages 7 to 14 years old, who must pre-register to attend by Wednesday, December 11th as the program is limited to 20 participants.

The Breakfast Club

The Edgerton Branch Library invites 4th and 5th graders to join “The Breakfast Club”, a fun book club that includes a hot breakfast! Come in your jammies on Saturday, December 14th at 9:30 am, and discuss the book James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. As this book has an AR level of 4.8, and is worth 4 AR points, participants will be able to use this book to help meet their AR goal at school. The library is working in conjunction with the 4th/5th grade teachers of Edgerton school to make this possible. “The Breakfast Club” is a FREE program, with all food and refreshments being provided by the library. Sign up to attend by Wednesday, December 11th. Stop into the library to pick up a copy of James and the Giant Peach before the club meeting!

Visit with Santa Claus!

Come visit Santa Claus at the Edgerton Branch Library on Wednesday, December 18th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Get into the holiday spirit as you enjoy refreshments, decorate a cookie, and tell Santa what’s on your Christmas list this year! All ages are invited to attend. Make sure you stop out and take part in an evening filled with laughter, cheer, and the Christmas spirit. This FREE program is a family event, so we ask that children be accompanied by an adult.

Chalk Couture Class

The Edgerton Branch Library is inviting adults to attend a “Chalk Couture” class on Thursday, December 19th, which will run from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Chalk Couture is the new and easy way to express your creativity! Instructed by Samantha Filip, attendants will be able to design and make their own pictures using the Chalk Couture method, which uses vinyl transfers, along with non-toxic water soluble pastes, to create beautiful works of art.

Cost to attend is $5.00. Participants will take home a large 10”x13” chalk board that they have custom designed! You must register to attend by Friday, December 13th at the Edgerton Branch Library.

Photo Explosion Box Craft

Create your own Photo Explosion Box at the Edgerton Branch Library! Held on Monday, December 23rd this fun DIY project is for teens, age 13 and older, and will run from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Participants are asked to bring 5 to 10 personal photographs to add to their explosion box. All other materials will be provided by the library. This is a FREE program, and light refreshments will be served. You must register to attend by Monday, December 16th as program size is limited to 15 participants.

Edon Branch Library Events

Santa at the Library Community Open House

On Sunday, December 1st Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making a special appearance at the Edon Branch Library’s “Community Open House,” which runs from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Children will have the opportunity to visit and share their holiday wishes with jolly old Saint Nick. Join the middle school choir as they perform Christmas carols. There will also be crafts, snacks, and prizes! Parents are encouraged to bring cameras to this event. The library will be partnering with the Edon Chamber of Commerce to host an afternoon of fun and holiday festivities. This program is free to the public.

Weave Christmas Bell Ornaments

The Edon Branch Library will be hosting a holiday crafting class where attendants will weave Christmas bell ornaments! Instructed by Carole Arbuthnot, the program will be held on Monday, December 2nd at 5:00 pm. Come learn a new skill and create a festive ornament with a woven bell design. Each one will be uniquely different! This is a FREE program for adults, and registration is required as class size is limited. 

Christmas Movie Series

The Edon Branch Library will be showing Christmas movies throughout the month of December. Stop into the library and watch some of your holiday favorites! The festive movie series will kick off on Thursday, December 5th with Disney’s 2009 “A Christmas Carol”, featuring Jim Carrey. On Thursday, December 12th watch “Elf” the hilarious journey of adopted elf Buddy (Will Ferrell) who discovers that he is human, and sets off on an adventure to find his birth father for Christmas. The final movie to be shown will be, “A Christmas Story”. Playing on Thursday, December 19th this holiday classic follows a young boy named Ralphie, who attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

All Christmas movies are rated PG, and will be shown at 4 pm in the library meeting room. Movies are FREE and open to all ages. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Create a Gingerbread House

Families are invited to create a traditional Gingerbread House at the Edon Branch Library on Saturday, December 7th starting at 10:00 am. While building your festive house, snack on cookies, and listen to Christmas music! Get in the holiday spirit while making a one of a kind creation. This program is FREE to attend with all materials being provided by the library. You must register by Monday, December 2nd as event size is limited to 12 participants. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend this event and take part in a fun, family friendly Christmas tradition. 

Chalk Couture Class

The Edon Branch Library is inviting all ages to attend a “Chalk Couture” class on Monday, December 9th, which will start at 6:00 pm. Enjoy a relaxing night at the library creating a personalized sign to take home!

Chalk Couture is the new and easy way to express your creativity! Samantha Filip will instruct a class that makes it easy for even a novice to create amazing signs with stencils and chalk paint! Changes can be made by simply wiping your board, and creating a new design. There are many stencils to choose from, along with large signs, per popular request. The library will cover the majority of the cost, and you only pay $15 to try this beautiful and simple craft! You must register to attend, as class size is limited to 15 participants.

Family Movie Night

On Friday, December 13th the Edon Branch Library will be having a Family Movie Night! Families are invited to enjoy a FREE and relaxing night out at the library! Starting at 7:00 pm, come in your jammies for a cozy evening of entertainment. Watch the 2019 new release, Dora and the Lost City of Gold (rated PG) on the 90” screen, in front of the library fire place. Pizza and snacks will be served. You don’t have to spend money to have a great family night together, simply visit the library!

Essential Oils Class

The Edon Branch Library will be holding an Essential Oils Class on Monday, December 16th. Instructor Rhonda Bockover will be teaching on how essential oils can aid your beauty regimen. The class will run from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. There will be a $5.00 charge to attend as participants will get to make and take home a fun oils project.

Christmas Sheep Painting Class

The Edon Branch Library invites you to participate in a “Christmas Sheep” painting class with Deb Ridgway on Tuesday, December 17th at 6:00 pm. Teens and adults can come paint an adorable sheep wearing a Santa hat on a 6”x 6”canvas. Just in time for the holiday season, this painting would make the perfect rustic décor to add to your Christmas decorations, or you could give the canvas away as a present! FREE to attend. Sign up by Monday, December 16th, as this class is limited to 14 participants.

Holiday Makerspace Program

The Edon Branch Library will be holding a holiday Makerspace Program during December, for teens and adults. Makerspaces allow you try a new hobby without the cost of buying expensive equipment or ingredients. They are also fun to attend with friends and family, as you can all get creative together!

The holiday Makerspace program will be all about Christmas Cookie Decorating! Held on Monday, December 23rd, you can stop in anytime between noon and 6:00 pm to try your hand at decorating a delicious cookie. The library will provide all the decorating materials, just drop in and take part in a FREE family activity!

Pioneer Branch Library Events

Make a Fresh Pine Holiday Arrangement

Make your own “Fresh Pine Arrangement” at the Pioneer Branch Library on Tuesday, December 3rd. Starting at 7:00 pm, Teri of Pete’s Posey Patch will guide you through assembling an aromatic pine arrangement, just in time for the holidays! With her step by step instruction, you too can create a beautiful piece to display on your mantel, or use as a table centerpiece. This is a FREE event paid for by the library. Spaces are limited, so call or stop into the library to register.

Cookies & Canvas Class

The Pioneer Branch Library will host a Cookies & Canvas class on Saturday, December 7th, at 9:00 am. Come paint your rendition of an outdoor winter scene with local artist Larry King! Snack on delicious cookies while you paint. This class is open to teens and adults, age 12 and up, of all artistic levels. Whether you’ve never painted a day in your life, or are an expert, you are welcome to attend! This is a FREE program, with supplies provided by the library, including the canvas for you to paint and take home. You must register to attend as class size is limited to 12 participants.

Essential Oils with Shelly 

Enjoy a hands on Make-N-Take event using doTERRA oils at the Pioneer Branch Library. Held on Saturday, December 14th, the class will be presented by Shelly Rice at 9:30 am. Open to teens and adults, each attendant will get make one FREE oil mix! Any additional oils are to be paid by the participant. You must register to attend by Wednesday, December 11th, as class size is limited to 12 participants.

Christmas Cookie Decorating for Students

The Pioneer Branch Library will hold Christmas Cookie Decorating for Students on Friday, December 20th, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. Start your Christmas Vacation school break off right by stopping in to the library to decorate a cookie, sip on hot cocoa, and listen to some of your favorite holiday music. Assorted cookie decorations will be available for you to choose from. This is a FREE program, with all supplies provided by the library.

Stryker Branch Library Events

Decorate a Gingerbread House

Decorate your very own Gingerbread House at the Stryker Branch Library on Tuesday, December 3rd starting at 5:30 pm. You must pre-register by December 2nd as there is a limited availability of 30 individuals, or 2 Gingerbread Houses per family. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend this event and take part in a fun, family friendly Christmas tradition.

Afterschool Gaming

Afterschool gaming is held on the 1st Friday of each month, at the Stryker Branch Library, for 5th-6th graders. Come game at the library from 3:15 to 4:00 pm, on Friday, December 6th!

Senior Citizens Christmas Tea

The Stryker Branch Library will be holding its annual Senior Citizens Christmas Tea on Friday, December 6th from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Come out and enjoy a delicious brunch, tea and coffee, along with door prizes and special readings. You must register to attend by Wednesday, December 4th, as there is a limit of 24 spaces available for this event. Stop in to the library or call ahead to reserve your spot today. You don’t want to miss out on this time of wonderful Christmas fellowship! This program is free to the public.

Christmas Open House

On Monday, December 9th Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making a special appearance at the Stryker Branch Library’s “Christmas Open House,” which runs from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Children will have the opportunity to visit and share their Christmas wishes with Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will be arriving at the library at 5:00 pm, in a Stryker fire truck! You’ll want to be at the library to welcome them.

The Open House will also feature live music, door prizes, and delicious refreshments. Make Christmas crafts and watch holiday movies. Goodie bags and a FREE book will be given out to all those who visit Santa! Parents, don’t forget your cameras! This is a FREE family event, and we ask that all children please be accompanied by an adult.

Attend an Adult Coloring Class at the Stryker Branch Library on Tuesday, December 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Pictures and coloring utensils will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own. Refreshments will be served. Come and relax at the library while coloring! West Unity Branch Library Events

WCPL to hold Retirement Open House for Ruth Meyer

Williams County Public Library will hold a “Retirement Open House”, in honor of West Unity Branch Manager, Ruth Meyer. The Open House will take place at the West Unity Branch Library on Monday, December 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The public is welcome to attend, and the event is open to all ages. Cookies, cupcakes, punch, and other goodies will be served. Come celebrate the 24 years of service Ruth has dedicated to the library, and the West Unity community!

Meet Santa Claus!

Santa Claus is coming to the West Unity Branch Library on Saturday, December 7th! Coloring contest winners will ride on firetrucks with Santa at 9:30 am. After the town parade, stop in to the library between 10:00 and 11:30 am and meet Santa! Kids are invited to tell Santa their Christmas wishes and get their picture taken. Kids will also be able to make a fun craft to take home, along with a holiday cookie and a FREE book! Parents, make sure to bring your camera! This is a FREE family program that is open to all ages.

The West Unity Branch Library will be hosting a holiday wreath making class, presented by Pete’s Posey Patch. Held on Monday, December 9th, the class will run from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. This is a FREE event for teens and adults. Come spend a fun evening at the library creating the perfect holiday decoration to add to your home! Christmas Cookie Swap

The West Unity Branch Library would like to invite adults to attend a Cookie Swap on Saturday, December 14th from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Attendants need to bring 2 ½ dozen cookies to swap with one another, just in time to celebrate the holidays! A ½ dozen cookies will be used to taste, and the other 2 dozen will be for sharing. Bring a copy of your holiday cookie recipe, so that at the end of the night all of the recipes will be put in a special recipe book for each participant to take home! This is a FREE program. You must register to attend by Thursday, December 12th, as the event is limited to 20 attendants.

Christmas Break Activities

The West Unity Branch Library will be holding fun activities for kids, over Christmas Break! All programs will start at 1:00 pm. On Monday, December 23rd stop into the library for Christmas crafts.  Watch a holiday movie on Friday, December 27th. Take part in a Lego Challenge on Monday, December 30th. This program will be held at 1:00 pm, and at 6:00 pm. There will be fun activities and games on Friday, January 3rd. All activities are FREE to attend.
